About Me

For over ten years I have been on the exciting journey of creating theatre.  Starting as a young apprentice, learning from those around me has brought be to where I am today; still in the heart of making theatre alongside artists and other collaborators.

After undertaking a wide range of freelance roles from building sets, painting, designing to production management, then a year at the Battersea Arts Centre as their Co Production Manager has made me stand stronger in my vision.  I look forward to the new challenges, opportunities and possibilities each show brings, with artists, performance space and audience.

I love the craziness, energy, enthusiasm and drives that develop within companies, in the rehearsal room and mostly on the stage with the audience.  I have always wanted to do lighting design but I have found that I was very much by myself in the process of creating the work. I find that I enjoy Production Management as it enables me to develop the ideas and work through a complete process.

Reflection on my freelance work 2006 – 2009

During this period I enjoyed working with a 'hands on' approach with artists, developing their work and nurturing the process of inventing their show with them.  One of my favourite shows has been The Arab and The Jew because of the journey I went on with the company. We went on tour around the country; listening to the audience and artist's instinct, developing the show right through till the last minute just before the audience come in. everything from lighting, sound cues, prop alterations, flying elements and touching up set. I found this immensely enjoyable.

Reflection of my work at BAC 2009 – 2010

Throughout my time at BAC I loved building a technical team and getting them involved with creating work with artists. I strived for perfection with the level of quality that we offered companies. My role started with helping get the technical infrastructure to the best standards, and offered artists the opportunity for the technical team to be engaged with their work. During the festivals we transformed spaces, built sets and did designs with or for them.  It was amazing to see the team work with the artists.  To this day I am so pleased with being the conductor of this and seeing the team do well.

From this experience I have come to realise that I love managing and developing a team, in order to create work together, with artists, carpenters, designers, painters, all the different people involved in putting on a show and especially the crew. It makes me proud to see people come together with the right tools to create something beautiful and beyond their dreams.

Currently 2011 – 20'

I look forward to getting involved in helping more artists and companies in creating their work for audiences. I have strong principles about how to look after people, and back this up with a large range of skills that enables me to understand the different process involved in creating a show:

Skills

Model Making – good knowledge and  professional experience

Carpentry – practical as well as good knowledge

Lighting design – natural eye in painting with the light, not much knowledge of lighting boards, can do confidently basic programming after understanding the knowledge of the board but not the knowledge of programming moving lights and complex effects

Sound operation – good ear, mixed small bands, experience on que lab, not strong knowledge in speakers and mixing large bands

Set design – good understanding. This is a great benefit to me as PM as I can come along side designers and help them realise there design and some shows it's meant that I've been able to finish the to do list because I've worked along with the designer and learnt there style.

Stage management – basic understanding, enough to pull it off

Production Management – I love doing this most as I feel that I'm I have a natural touch in understanding the process from everyone participation.
