Anant – Endless was specially created for the UK Gharana Festival in 2010 and the piece is inspired by the personal artistic journey of choreographer and dancer, Urja Desai Thakore when she travelled from India to the UK. I, Within is a contemporary dance production which puts a bold twist on traditional Kathak vocabulary. Performed as a duet, it explores the different roles of women in modern society through paradoxical reflection, two women as part of one whole, demonstrating the multifaceted nature of our individual identities. Avoiding the well-trodden path of traditional storytelling, the piece explores the many roles a woman must play in modern society using expressive abstract movements and facial expressions. |
The piece maintains the purity of the Kathak form while merging it seamlessly with a new contemporary movement vocabulary created by Urja Desai Thakore, imbuing it with freshness and individuality. |
